Important Tips for Your Periodontal Grafting Recovery
Posted on 3/23/2016 by Leslie Davis
Do you have a periodontal grafting procedure scheduled in the near future?
These procedures work to cover up and protect tooth root surfaces that have been exposed, and they can also be useful in the treatment and prevention of decay and gum disease.
While the end result should be a healthier and more attractive new smile, many people are worried about the recovery process after the procedure. Use these steps to improve your comfort and provide for optimal healing after your gum graft procedure.
Use Ice to Reduce Swelling For the first 48 hours after your procedure, feel free to use ice in order to deal with pain and swelling that you might experience. Place the ice pack on your face for 10 minutes at a time, twice per hour. Frozen vegetables can be a good substitute if you don't have an ice pack available.
Rinse with a Salt Water Solution
Rinsing out your mouth with a salt water solution can help to prevent infection and reduce swelling. You can dissolve a tablespoon of salt into about eight ounces of warm water before swishing the liquid around in your mouth. Do this for a minute at a time, several times per day.
Take Your Medications Your dentist or oral surgeon will give you a list of medications that you can and cannot take after your procedure, so make sure you use them to promote healing and to prevent pain. In some cases, you may be given antibiotics in order to reduce the chance of infection.
After your procedure, make sure you are following through with your appointments with your dentist. These appointments are crucial in checking the progress of your grafting and will usually be scheduled 4-6 weeks after the procedure.
If you experience any complications before this time, be sure to contact our dental office to be seen sooner.

excellent care and attention
Once again, I want to thank you for all the excellent care and attention you so masterfully extended to me last year. I walked in terrified, with a tooth falling out, and left after wonderful treatment- better educated and with a transplant and confidence.
I have highly recommended you to my family and friends and join your many fans and satisfied patients.
